AGE DISCRIMINATION?

Thomas Jefferson, George Washington, James Madison, John Adams, and Benjamin Franklin - men whose philosophy created the Declaration of Independence, the Constitution, and the Bill of Rights - are often cited among the leaders of the American Revolution and the Founding Fathers of the United States.

And all of them became presidents, except for one: Benjamin Franklin.  It wasn’t because Franklin wasn’t bright or accomplished - he was called “the greatest man in the country” by Jefferson and was often sought for advice by the others.  So what stopped him from officially leading the nascent country?  It was his age.  Franklin was eighty-three years old when the younger Washington, then fifty-seven, was selected as president.  Franklin died a year later.
