McCain To Approve Troop Surge In Afghanistan

My answer to the Taliban/al-Qaeda problem in Afghanistan has already been covered.  Via Hot Air we hear news that should have been news years ago.

John McCain’s upcoming policy speech on Afghanistan:

An adviser to the campaign told The New York Sun that, in a speech to be delivered in Albuquerque, N.M., the senator will call for an increase in combat troops and the creation of a special Afghanistan tsar to coordinate policy toward the country. “There will be a surge for Afghanistan. It will be moving combat troops in and applying the lessons from Iraq and the strategy that was successful in Iraq and taking that to Afghanistan,” this official said.

Afghanistan is not Iraq by any means.  Take Iraq and then turn the clock back about 1400 years and THATS Afghanistan.  Luckily we have folks like Gen. Petraeus who know that.

Seems one of Rudy Giuliani’s guys had the idea for a surge in Afghanistan long ago and makes better sense of it.  Rudy’s director for foreign policy, Charles Hill said:

“The Iraq war is over. Wars don’t come to an end the way they used to. It ended as best it can end about last December. The front has shifted to the Afghan-Pakistan border. We’ve chased them into that corner. That is a very different situation and difficult to handle because of the border and because the terrorists have a sanctuary there. We can’t get into that sanctuary, but Pakistan does not govern it. It is a black hole in the map of world order.”

“The surge in Iraq was really a version of clear, hold, and build. When you take territory, you hold it to keep the population secure, in some sense the people would do the rest. They would be entrepreneurial,” he said. “We can’t hold territory in the tribal areas of Pakistan, another way to make the surge workable on the ground has to be found, and that has to be in some form with the Pakistani military.”

Obama, in his pathetic NYT’s article detailing his turn and run plan from Iraq, said this regarding Afghanistan:

As president, I would pursue a new strategy, and begin by providing at least two additional combat brigades to support our effort in Afghanistan. We need more troops, more helicopters, better intelligence-gathering and more nonmilitary assistance to accomplish the mission there. I would not hold our military, our resources and our foreign policy hostage to a misguided desire to maintain permanent bases in Iraq.

What the hell does Obamatard mean by “more nonmilitary assistance?”  The fucking Peace Corps?  I wonder if he could even point Afghanistan out on a globe?  Nah, he only knows what wine to have with salmon.  Enough about him.

McCain getting behind ANYTHING is a good idea given his reluctance to rock the boat (does he still have a pulse?) and may win him a vote or two back, that is, until he opens his mouth and utters the words climate change or global warming again.

What I don’t hear anyone acknowledging though is this.  Until we are allowed to go into Pakistan and flush these animals out, no amount of troops will help.  We’d by like a kid restricted to the porch while the other kids chucked rocks at us from the street.  Helpless.

These asshats are hiding in mountains riddled with caves, if I were president I would give the possibly 200 people who chose to live there one week to clear out and then level the place.

Guess that’s why I’ll never be president.
