Iraq’s prime minister has for the first time publicly called for a US troop withdrawal timetable.

Nuri al-Maliki said on Monday that a military agreement the two countries are negotiating should include provisions for the withdrawal of American troops.

In a meeting with Arab ambassadors in the United Arab Emirates on Monday, al-Maliki said Iraq had proposed a short-term interim memorandum of agreement rather than the more formal status of forces agreement the two sides have been negotiating.

"Negotiations are ongoing with the US side and the current attitude is to reach a memorandum of understanding either for immediate US forces withdrawal or timetable withdrawal," he said on Monday.

The memorandum "now on the table" includes a formula for the withdrawal of US troops, he said.

"The goal is to end the presence [of foreign troops]," al-Maliki said.

The prime minister offered few details, but his national security adviser, Mouwaffak al-Rubaie, told The Associated Press that the government was proposing a timetable contingent on Iraqi forces being able to provide security.

Let him know a date in secret and be done with the whole thing.  Africa could use some cleaning up if we’re ever to expect the tons of money we send there to ever do any good.  Or better yet, send all of the troops in Iraq to Afghanistan.

After reading this, we should all be re-evaluating our stance on Iraq.  With words like this it will be hard to explain any legitimate reasoning for staying much longer.

We definitely should be seeing some sweet oil deals come our way for the favor of liberating them though.

Now they’re setting the stage for different religions to develop their own legal systems … and then live under them. This could get confusing.
• A few weeks ago we told you about Muslims who were upset that dogs were being used to sniff for explosives on passenger trains in the UK. Then we had the outrage over the government’s non-emergency campaign using a puppy on its posters. Well we have the latest news on Muslims and dogs … Police sniffer dogs will now have to wear dog booties when searching homes that belong to Muslims so as to not cause offense. They might as well go ahead and wear the booties full time as to never upset Muslims. Sounds like another "Muslims outraged" headline to me. Maybe they should wear little booties on their noses too.
• A government minister in the UK has decided that school children should be locked up inside school grounds in order to stop them from buying unhealthy food. Apparently students who are allowed off campus for lunch or other breaks are eating foods that are unacceptable to the government therefore their solution is to not let students leave school grounds. When it came down to it, researchers found that more children were opting to leave campus for lunch because the government school cafeterias had long lines, lousy facilities and high prices. What a surprise.
• And perhaps the most ridiculous story of today … two government school children were given detention because they refused to kneel down and "pray to Allah" during a religious education class. The boys did not want to take part in the demonstration on how Allah is worshipped, a demonstration which included wearing Muslim garb. Now they will serve detention for insulting the supreme, loving religion of Islam.

I’m sad and ecstatic all at the same time.

Most of us who read on such things know that a computer’s hard drive has about four good years in it before you start working on borrowed time.  Reminds me of the Seinfeld episode where Kramer test drove an Audi? and wanted to see how far he could go before he ran out of gas.  He and the salesmen were waxing nostalgic about the movie ‘Thelma and Louise’ (never saw it and after Sarandons recent remarks never will), when they drive off the cliff hand in hand.

Well, I’ve had my desktop for going on six years and today it finally belched it’s last little belch and died (taps please).  No burnt smell, nothing.  I took it out and shook it, tried to pry it open, put it back in and nothing.  Most everything I cared about is backed up on an external but I did lose even more post and many of my graphics.  "Kay Serah Serah" - (redneck spelling).

Luckily I have a Vaio purchased in "Asia", which works, but is giving me fits after having attempted to upgrade it to Vista almost a year ago, and with all the aggravation it gave me because of driver issues, registration etc, the cat has been sleeping on it.  It’s working like a union member now.  Slow, belligerent and mediocre.

This leads me to a lesson learned and one I’d like to pass along to any of my brothers and sisters in "Asia" wearing the uniform I wear now only on special occasions.

DO NOT buy anything electronic when you get your R&R trip to wherever.  Order it online from America!  You’ll thank me later!

Granted that everyone operating a  Taco Truck is a legal American Citizen, this is a prime example of why government doesn’t work anymore.

A new law, spurred by restaurant industry lobbying and spearheaded by Supervisor Gloria Molina, prescribes hefty fines and even jail time for vendors that linger in one place too long. It will apply outside the city limits to the unincorporated areas of the county, where about one million of the county’s ten million residents live. The move has caused a conflagration in the county, pitting “brick-and-mortar” restaurant interests and government planners against taco truck owners and their loyal customers.

So a group of businesses, getting outdone by the very capitalist system they thrive from, now want the competition wiped out.  How do they slit the throat?  Call your local socialist Democrat that’s how.

ISLAMABAD, Pakistan — The leaders of the two major political parties, in an unexpectedly strong show of unity against President Pervez Musharraf, agreed Sunday that they would reinstate the judges fired by the president and would seek to strip him of crucial powers.

The accord created a direct threat to Mr. Musharraf because the restored judges could act on petitions challenging the validity of his re-election last October when he was still head of the army.

I won’t pretend to be an expert of Pakistani politics, I do know that Musharraf was the closest thing we had to a friend in the country and now it looks like he may not be long for this earth.  We know that in such places when you are stripped of power you either go into exile or end up with a noose necktie.

If it weren’t for the fact that the denizens of the region export terrorism who would care what they do, but they do and also have something the other unstable regimes in the area don’t have.  Nuke’s.   I don’t think Condi or any US ambassador is going to fix this.  I say we go in and disarm their bombs and only then, let them self destruct.  But we know it won’t be that simple don’t we.
